One of the main advantages of renting a motorbike in Mallorca is parking. In Palma, motorbikes can park in blue parking zones, which are paid for cars but free for motorbikes. This also applies in most municipalities across the island.
However, there are some important exceptions such as Sóller, Valldemossa, Deià and the centre of Alcúdia, where motorbikes can only park in designated motorcycle parking areas. We recommend always checking the signs before parking in blue zones outside Palma.
At Vintage Motors we recommend parking your motorbike in designated motorcycle parking areas, usually marked in yellow and indicated by the appropriate road signs. In these areas your motorbike will be better protected from the main risk on the island: cars and vans manoeuvring while parking.
What should be avoided in any case: parking on pavements or pedestrian areas is not allowed and is one of the most common reasons our customers receive fines. Parking a motorbike in yellow-marked areas (except motorcycle spaces), loading zones, disabled parking spaces, bus stops or entrances to garages can result in a fine. You will easily recognise these areas as they are marked in yellow or clearly signposted.
In Spain it is mandatory to wear a helmet and closed footwear when riding a motorbike. At Vintage Motors we also offer gloves and jackets for customers who want additional protection when renting their motorbike with us (extra cost applies).
In Palma and some other municipalities there are restricted access areas for residents. In Palma these zones are called ACIRE zones. They restrict cars but do not prohibit motorbikes, so you can ride freely throughout the city. However, in some municipalities outside Palma the rules may differ, so it is important to check the road signs marking restricted access areas.
Soller: There's a new zero-emissions zone in the town center, so only electric bikes are allowed in the center of Sóller. There are parking areas outside this zone where you can park your scooter or motorbike and walk to the center. Please refrain from entering the zone, as there are cameras in place to issue fines. If you're staying at a hotel in the center, they can arrange a permit for you to enter with your scooter or motorbike.
Formentor is a very popular destination during high season. From May 15 to October 15, cars and motorbikes are not allowed on the road between Formentor beach and the lighthouse between 10:00 and 22:00. This restriction does not affect the viewpoint located halfway to the beach, which offers spectacular views, nor the parking area at Formentor beach. If you still wish to visit the lighthouse, free shuttle buses run frequently from the beach parking area, or you can reach it on foot or by bicycle.
If you come from the Netherlands, keep in mind that motorbikes are not allowed to use bicycle lanes in Spain. Wearing a helmet is always mandatory, and riding without a shirt is not permitted.
Motorbikes do not use diesel. If your car at home runs on diesel, be careful when refuelling at petrol stations, as habit can sometimes lead to mistakes.
Be careful about storing your keys in a bag or backpack instead of your pocket. It may seem harmless until you place the bag in the top box and accidentally lock the keys inside.
Motorbikes rented from Vintage Motors cannot leave the island of Mallorca to travel to other islands or mainland Spain. The reason is simple: roadside assistance and insurance coverage are limited to the island of Mallorca.

To rent a motorbike with us, you must hold the appropriate driving licence for the type of bike you choose and have previous experience riding a similar vehicle. For 125cc scooters, for example, you can ride with a standard car licence (category B) provided it has been held for at least 3 years, or with an A1, A2 or A licence.
