Licenses required to rent a motorcycle in Mallorca

Requirements for renting a 125cc scooter in Mallorca

In Mallorca, and generally throughout Spain, you can drive a scooter up to 125cc with any of the following driver's licenses:

• With a Class B driver's license for cars that is at least three years old.
  It's very important to keep in mind that it must have been issued for at least three years or more. If your car driver's license is not that old, you cannot drive a 125cc scooter in Mallorca.
  Yes, we already know that this isn't possible in Germany or that in France, only two years are required. You should keep in mind that this is Spain, and spanish driving rules apply here, not those of the country where it was issued. Although the Spanish government has announced its intention to amend it, no changes have been made and it is still in force in 2026.
• With a Class A1, A2, or A motorcycle driver's license.
  The Class A license for mopeds is not valid for a 125cc scooter. It is only valid for 50cc scooters. You can also drive a 50cc scooter with a car license without any experience. At Vintage Motors, we do not offer 50cc scooters.
• Very important: Please note that we require prior experience, as you can see in the last point of this section.

Requirements for renting motorcycles over 125cc (motorcycles)

There are two driving license requirements depending on the motorcycle's power:

• Motorcycles with an engine power up to 35kW (47hp): a driving license class A2 or A for motorcycles is required.
• Motorcycles with a power greater than 35kW (47hp): in this case, a driving license class A for motorcycles is required.

Please note that if your license is from the United Kingdom and has a type 79(3) restriction, even if you have a class A license, you will not be able to rent any type of motorcycle in Mallorca, as your driving license is restricted to tricycles.

Do I need previous motorcycle riding experience?

If you want to rent a scooter or motorcycle for your holidays in Mallorca, no matter what type of bike it is, you must have previous experience riding a similar bike.

At Vintage Motors, we don't want anyone to have an accident, especially while on vacation, so it's best to avoid unnecessary risks. Mallorca is an island with considerable traffic in the more urban areas, especially in Palma. Mountainous areas carry the added risk of falling off a cliff into the sea. Its very tight curves are not suitable for inexperienced drivers.

• If you've never ridden a motorcycle before, it's best to try it for the first time at a driving school.
• If you think that having ridden once in Bali or Phuket gives you enough experience, we regret to inform you that it has nothing to do with riding in Mallorca.
• We don't recommend renting a motorcycle with considerable power if you haven't ridden a similar motorcycle for too many years.
• If you're not used to riding a scooter or motorcycle, doing so in a different country adds an extra layer of danger.
